Always a Christmas favorite!

4 cups walnuts, finely chopped

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 pound phyllo dough

1 cup butter, melted

12 ounces honey

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Butter 9x13-inch pan.

Mix nuts & cinnamon.

Cut phyllo dough to fit pan.

Place 1 sheet in pan & brush with butter.

Repeat to make 5 more layers of phyllo.

Sprinkle with 1 cup walnut mixture.

Place 1 sheet dough on walnut mixture & brush with butter. Repeat to make 6 more layers of dough.

Sprinkle with 1 cup walnut mixture.

Repeat layering 2 more times placing remaining phyllo dough on top of last walnut layer & brush with butter.

With a sharp knife cut through layers in triangular pattern making 24 pieces.

Bake 1 hour & 15 minutes or until top is golden brown.

While baking heat honey until hot, do not boil.

Spoon hot honey over baklava as soon as it comes out of oven.

Cool completely.

NOTE: I try to use a pan about the size of the phyllo dough so I do not have to cut it. The size may vary sometimes depending on the brand of dough you use. If using a larger pan it will not take as long to bake & you will need a little more butter, nuts & sugar this way. Always butter each sheet of dough. Make sure to keep dough under a moist towel to prevent drying out.

You can not mess this up, it may sound difficult but it isn't. Main thing to remember is count first layers & make sure you save at least 6 layers for top. Anything else will work out!
